  • What is Music Industry Learning?

    Music Industry Learning (MIL) is a not for profit organisation based in Salford, United Kingdom. It is limited by guarantee and registered in England and Wales number 6559052.
  • What exactly do you do?

    We create and deliver innovative music and media industry training.. Additionally, we are the creators of unique music industry educational products such as paperbacks, PDF books, audio books, video tutorials and iPhone apps.
  • Who runs MIL?

    A board of four directors and several multi-talented volunteers make up the ever-expanding team behind the organisation. If you're interested in volunteering with us, please get in touch; we'd love to hear from you!   • Where are you based?

    We are based in Salford, a metropolitan borough of Greater Manchester, in North West England. The City of Salford has a population of 218,000.
  • What courses are available ?

    Our "virtual" (distance learning) courses are delivered via the Internet; so you can sit back and learn at your own pace from the comfort of your own home. However, we also offer face-to-face training, either 1-2-1 or in a group. There are also video tutorials, audio books and courses for mobile phone available.   • Who are your courses and training products aimed at?

    Our customers are from varied backgrounds; from school leavers to retired people, male, female, the unemployed, music industry professionals... you name it. Some people who have studied with us have no music industry experience, whereas others are pros who are looking to improve upon their existing skills. There is something for everyone.
  • What kind of topics will I learn?

    Almost every music topic is covered; song writing, composing, copyright, collection societies, recording studios and technology, recording a demo, remixing and producing, getting a record deal / publishing deal, how to set up your own record label, finding a manager, how to avoid being ripped off, contracts, rehearsing and performing, manufacturing onto CD, vinyl and MP3 encoding, physical and digital distribution, promoting your music, producing a press pack, writing a press release, designing a web site, networking, social networking, creating a CV/resume, preparing for a job interview, writing a business plan and much more.
  • What exactly is a virtual course?

    This is where you are able to study from home or the library for example; there aren't any classes to attend and you can learn at your own pace. All tuition, advice and support is carried out online between you and one of our music industry consultants. All you need is access to a computer that is connected to the Internet and an email account. A mobile phone and instant messenger is an advantage, but not essential. You can contact our music industry consultant any time.
  • Are all courses delivered over the Internet ?

    Not at all. You can enrol on a course that is delivered in-person face-to-face or if you prefer there are a number of video tutorials available to watch online.
  • How long do the courses last?

    Each course varies. It could be as short as one day, or as long as one year.This information is provided next to the course description on the Products & Courses page
  • Is there a 'music tech' course?

    At the moment, I'm afraid not, but don't worry because we're currently hiring music tech freelancers!
  • Do you offer lessons in how to play a musical instrument?

    We are currently hiring freelance musicians who will be able to teach guitar, keyboards, drums and other musical instruments...even singing. These lessons will also be available by late summer.
  • How much do your courses costs?

    Course fees are highlighted in the relevant section of the Products & Courses page, and vary between £FREE and £1500. Learner's based in Salford, UK and claim unemployment benefits are entitled to free tuition (face to face, virtual and video courses only. Our paperbacks, PDF books and fact sheets are not free)
  • I live in Salford, United Kingdom but I am working... am I still entitled to free tuition ?

    Unfortunately not. You must live in Salford and be receiving benefits
  • I live outside of Salford but I receive unemployment benefits... am I still entitled to free tuition?

    Sorry, you must live in Salford also to receive free tuition
  • How do I sign up to a course ?

    Click the Apply Here link to the left and complete the application form online in less than five minutes.
  • How do I pay for a course ?

    When you have completed your application form, you will be presented with information on screen showing you how to pay. Simply submit payment to info at musicindustrylearning.com using PayPal
  • How old do I have to be to study with Music Industry Learning ?

    It varies. This information is included in the course description on the Products & Courses page
  • How do I become a volunteer?

    We'd love to hear from you! Sign up by downloading an application form on the Vacancies page. Once complete, please email over to info at musicindustrylearning.com It is vital that you tell us as much about yourself as possible. We'd like to know exactly what you're good at and what you're interested in doing.
  • How many hours must I work every week as a volunteer ?

    Ideally, you would be able to commit to a minimum of one hour a week, every week. Some volunteers who have day jobs do exactly this, whereas others spend a few hours every day helping out at MIL
  • What kind of voluntary roles are available ?

    It doesn't matter what skills you have; I'm sure there is something for you. You may prefer an admin role, sales, marketing, web developing, graphic design, teaching. Whatever your interests; if you are an honest, reliable and talented individual please get in touch no matter where you live
